Case Study: Mecc Alte

“We have worked with Kortec for just over 15 years now and can safely say that we feel complete trust in the relationship and service we continue to grow”

Analysis

Assessment of all aspects of the coating process

Our first meeting with Mecc Alte was back in 2007, when we were asked to come and discuss some potential options to help them streamline their finishing department. As the business was growing there was a growing number of variables that they had to deal within this area. Mecc Alte wanted a system that would cope with multiple substrates, as they were now dealing with galvanised steel, mild steel, pre primed and cast parts, and were finding that their current system wasn’t giving both the required adhesion and finish required across all different surfaces.

Implementation

Analysis and delivery of optimum system

After initial in-house testing, we were able to successfully demonstrate a primer-finish product which passed both the adhesion and finish criteria, across all of the different substrates. We also carried out an investigation into the equipment being used and looked at ways we could make this more efficient in terms of both time and paint expenditure. From here, we transitioned our client from the current pot guns to diaphragm pumps, which led to huge improvements in terms of time taken to spray a unit, as well as around 30% saving on paint expenditure due to the increase in transfer efficiency.

Ongoing Client Benefits

Rationalised stock & further development over the years to come

The instant benefit this gave the client was the ability to use the same paint system across all different substrates. A few years later, the wide variation of different substrates meant that after another evaluation process, we transitioned Mecc Alte over to a separate primer & topcoat, thus allowing the levels of adhesion and finish to remain a constant. Over the years, we are constantly evaluating any new products that we feel could benefit our client and suit their market requirements. This had led to a 15+ year strong relationship, with Mecc Alte putting the trust in Kortec that their finishing requirements are in safe hands moving forward.

Top Obstacles to Consistent Colour
10 Jan, 2024
Consistent paint colour is essential for virtually every painting process – the two main scenarios are: mass production where items from different runs may end up being mixed in a final unit e.g. kitchen doors and bespoke production where the paint requirement can be hard to estimate (or the original size is extended) meaning extra paint is required.
